I've been reading your blog and enjoying it, but this post (or re-post) really connected with me. Like the NYTimes writer, I'm a former copywriter, too, and work was absolutely my third place. I really miss being in an office. Who woulda thunk? Sadly, I still can't go back, thanks to my stupid brain injury, so these days, I guess I really only have one place -- home. When Catherine's here, it's fine, but when she's not, it's very lonely. Sigh.
Get to know your neighbors at Our Third Place. The third place is the place we find ourselves when not at home or at work. It all boils down to our need to connect to one another, those we know and those we would like to get to know, through our neighborhoods and the places we hang out.
